This instantly made me think of Jenny. In the relatively short time I’ve known her she has helped me remember that big heavy stones aren’t always as big and heavy as they seem. She reminds me, when they press down on my chest so all I can do is wiggle my toes and my fingers, she reminds me and she breathes and great big powerful breath and she uses her mighty strength and she pushes boulders as if they were pebbles. And sometimes when she has a big heavy stone on her, sometimes I remember my own strength and I reach into the basket we made and I find two pairs of wings, one for each of us and we leave the stones on the sand and we fly up into the clouds holding hands, because holding hands means I love you, and I do, love her.

And Abi is so wonderful at being that friend. She’s so wonderful at being a friend. She’s just so wonderful. I adore her. When Jenny first met her IRL she instantly messaged me to tell me how wonderful she was (which I already knew from our Amsterdam adventures) and how she thought Abi should come live with us in SF. To which I replied, “duh.”

We’re adopting her. We’re going to live in SF together and all of our dreams are going to come true. You can come visit if you want. We throw fabulous tea parties.*

*I already know this to be true even if it is yet to happen.

my mom is all things calm and relaxed. she is patience. she is reason. she is most things i, by nature, am not. some have called her a push over. some have told her she would do better if she stood up for herself more. i don’t think those people get it. sometimes, in life, you need to fight back. harder than those times are the ones that turn out best when you do nothing at all. sometimes not reacting is the best reaction. knowing when to pick your battles. not turning anthills into mountains. realizing that the size of an argument is controlled by those having it. pausing long enough to analyze and understand situations and frustrations as best you can.  words are important. choose them as best you can. fill them with truth. anger is easy, controlling it is the hard part.  anyone can be loud. the strength is felt in the silence of a pause. my mom is most things i am not. but wherever i need, she gives.
