kentucky’s own “banjo-picking girl” - lily may ledford.
a pioneering woman of country music, lily may grew up in the red river gorge section of powell county in the mountains of eastern kentucky.  at the age of seventeen, she met a radio producer and talent scout named john lair, who launched her into a three-decade career as leader of the coon creek girls, the first commercially successful all-female string band.

I really want to learn to play the banjo. I started once, but the banjo was borrowed and I moved. I can’t play the guitar, or sing; those would be nice too. But there’s something about the banjo.

South Austin Jug Band ~ Little Wing

Here’s a bluegrass cover of Little Wing. I’m a huge fan of bluegrass too, so when I heard this cover of one of my favorite Hendrix songs, I had to share it with you. Enjoy!

Hat tip to Elise for introducing me to this tumblr. I foresee a lot of bluegrass in my future and as such, my future looks bright!
