Common Blue Jay
From: A natural history of birds, fishes, reptiles, and insectsPhiladelphia :Grigg & Elliot,1845.biodiversitylibrary.org/item/92678

when we were little we went camping a lot. we were pretty broke and camping was a cheap & fun family activity. only problem was, we would occasionally encounter rowdy party types; damn hooligans. my mom & step-dad always thought of really creative ways to get even though.
one trip in particular, in yosemite valley. kids tucked in for bed, parents enjoying the peace & quiet of the great outdoors. a bunch of party-people roll in at 1am and decide it’s time to party. well, little kids wake up early. so to stellar jays.
6am: little pieces of bread tossed gently all around the tent of the sleeping party people, inviting a cacophony of fighting stellar jays. don’t get mad, get even.
my mom is in the hospital right now. it sounds like she’s o.k. but if you have some spare good thoughts, positive vibes, etc. that you could send her way, well, i’d appreciate it very much.
